Have you guys seen this? I thought it was cool and figured it would interest most of you.

There's videos and pics on that forum, just easier to link the whole thing.

What it is, is an air pump and tuned pipework that run off the driveline of an electric touring car to produce accurate sounds of an real motor. All of those seem to mimic high revving small engines but I'm sure with tuning you could make different sounds, even low rpm v8. Nothing I plan to do, just found it very interesting.

I was thinking about this just the other day; how about a tiny module that plugs into the throttle channel, a loud cellphone speaker, small rom, add a gyro to detect drift which adds tire squeal over and above the engine sounds, and a second sensor on one of the motor leads to detect RPM so the engine sounds can mimic realistic gear changes. This could be usb programable to recreate anything from a motorcycle engine to a big diesel and everything in between.

Me thinks such a device would be quite popular with the drift crowd.
