Notfastenuff and Randy1 helped me out with this a while back. I think most of it was either in the chatbox or in some of the lost posts though. Hopefully them or others with this knowledge will pipe in and correct me if I tell you wrong. The mark for advancing the timing is already indented into the motor can. The important part is turning it the correct direction. Holding the can steady you turn the endbell counter clockwise, or rotate it left. The mark you are looking for is at the negative terminal. The plastic piece that the terminal is mounted in has the 3 notches ||| and the notch you want the cans indention in is the one on the right, or the third one ||(|). I'll take a pic of mine but since it's a black motor I don't claim it will be a very clear image.

Here's a pic, circles the indention in red.

One last question. With such a huge motor, can the rib cage of your tamtech (just a guess) fit in? From the picture, i dont see any ri cage that overhangs the motor.

Yeah, it fits. I had it off when I was messing around with installing a 540 sized motor and haven't put it back yet. You do have to sand down a spot on the chassis though to allow the motor to get close enough to let the pinion contact the spur.

How's the advanced timing treating you? Are you impressed by the increase in performance?

I ran mine for a bit with stock timing. The difference is impressive with advanced.

I didnt buy the vr3 in the end but instead got myself a turnigy inrunner can size 240motor. The torque is good but i still hunger for more. Guess nothing is enough for me :).

Going back to the topic.
Jamus: what is the gearing that your are using for your pinion? have you tried 3s lipo on this beaut? Worried that it would burn the motor.

What's the kv rating of the motor you're running?

I run 18/64 gearing which is about all you can run with the VR3, due to the size of it's can. I run it on stock tamtech electronics as well, so no 3s, not even 2s yet, just 6-cell nimh. I had brushless in the tamtech, even ran 10-cell, but found out I am not a good enough driver for that power and only 2wd. So I went back to 6-cell and the VR3 in this, put the brushless in my 4wd Ferret which screams. I've been putting off getting a charger but when I do, everything gets lipos haha.

Thanks for the advice! Ha.. time to do some shopping. The additional weight of the VR3 will put some extra rearward traction and boosting more speed.
