Here it is, got it a couple of months ago, studded the tires, slapped on a slipper clutch, ezrun 9T and 2200mah 2 cell zippy lipos. (actually in some parts of the video it's running 3 cells)

This is by far the most fun RC car i've had to date.

That does look like a lot of fun. My touring car is the only rc I hadn't considered taking out in the snoGot any pics of the tires?

Of course... where are my manners? lol I would normally say touring cars aren't really suitable for this sort of thing, but this thing has an awd buggy's DNA and uses a bathtub chassis that is pretty easy to encase, which helps protect the all too sensitive electronics. The subie doesn't come with the inner body shell (tamiya dark inpact body) like the mitsubishi does. (I did not know this at the time) making an inner shell out of a PET bottle and some hook&loop fastener wasn't too hard though.

Here are some pics, in the first one you can see the studs pretty well; (p.s. she's taken a lot of hits since those pics but she's still beautiful to me)

More info on the studs;

what's worked best so far is tamiya rally block tires, with two rows of studs inserted from inside the tire through the dimple at the middle of the center blocks. The studs themselves are standard sewing pins (the steel ones with roundish flat metal heads) You punch them through the tire and then cut them to length.

They don't rip out easily at all (never hapened to us so far) but they do have one problem; they will recess into the tire almost instantly and loose their effect. To counter this we tried a variety of things, so far the most durable is to put a dab of CA on the head of each stud, one drop in each dimple around the stud itself (outside the tire) and a little dab of shoe goo over each pinhead.

It's not yet ideal, I tried putting a thick layer of shoe goo over the inside of the tire to keep the pins from receding but this resulted in an excessively hard tire that would not grip at all, just a dab around each pin that has previously glued with CA seems to work best.

I so wish someone made pre-studded tires!

Oh man, that is one badjazz ride! (unfortunately for me I couldn't view the video on my current internet connection...)
Love the new generation Subaru's too! Just got back from the SnoDrift pro-rally a couple of weeks ago watching Travis Pastrana and Dave Mirra rip it up with their fully prepped Sti's and that was amazing. I want one of those so bad! (both the Tamiya, and the real deal, haha!)

Sounds like a good idea about the shoe goo and cut-off pins for winter running.

Care to post up some side profile shots of this car? Maybe some naked with the lid off too?

Thanks.

Oh man it's a shame... that's all old snow in the video and not very maleable, (can't build jumps) a couple of weeks ago we had some nice "shapeable" snow and made a 2 foot kicker, car flew 4 feet high 8-10 feet long jumps and flies like a buggy, it was "eerie" to watch a touring car behave in such a way. Soon as I get such conditions again I'm going to try to get some of that on video...

Next challenge is to replicate travis pastrana's 271 foot new years jump (to 1:10 scale)

yeah, there ya' go, with replica TP's barge jump, haha! Or since you're doing it on snow, tie a little fishing line to a GI Joe on a snowboard and you can be Ken Block at the DC Mtn Lab, would be sweeeeeeeet!

well, managed to catch the first 3/4 of the youtube action. Good stuff! That thing looks FAST. What motor/ESC are you running in it? What battery? Looks a bit faster than my SC10 with 13.5 Ballistic/LRP! or maybe that's just because of the hook and book when ripping on pins, haha! I'd love to have one of these and take it to some of the local clay tracks to run with some SC trucks just to see some people's faces!

You do any other upgrades to your chassis/drivetrain?

I'm now looking at the Lancia Delta DF-03 RA! Maybe I'll have to pick one up when I swing back to Japan next month... ah, don't get me started!

I am running 2 and 3 cell lipos, 2200mah 20 and 25C cheap zippy packs from hobbyking.

Car is mostly stock except for the slipper clutch and titanium screw set but other than that it's box stock.

Motor/esc is hobbywing ezrun 60A and 9t 4300kv motor (this is really a 380 class motor with a large heatsink boosting it's external diameter to that of a 540 class motor) It's PLENTY powerful for me.
