Jamus, how do the CC axles stand up to added power? And also, are the hexes standard 12mm?

The hexes are 12mm. Stock the CC axles aren't all that strong. It's relative though, the thing comes with 4" tall tires and most people want to run larger 5" - 5.5" crawler tires. So you can see why people run into strength troubles. They do make metal internal gears and CVD axles, but so far the plastic has held for me. The tallest I expect to run is in the 4" - 4.25" range though. Unless you get a rediculous deal though, I'd go with some other axles. The Venom crawler is a perfect example of a good cheap option, the redcat rs10 isn't bad either if you like MOA axles.

Thanks Jamus, I've been out of the crawler scene for a while, didn't know there were that many choices already. I will check out your recommendations. Thanks. :thumb

Well, the ones I mentioned are the ones that would be good on a budget, along with axials. There are better options out there though. If I wasn't about to pick up a micro crawler I'd probably try out a venom, the selectable diffs might make a great rock racer since a locked diff breaks more parts when landing jumps.

Just checking in, I just keep laughing to myself Jamus. Being a Firearm guy long before I became an RC guy...MOA is minute of angle to me! It always takes me a quick head shake to recalibrate the 2 active brain cells to read MOA as motor on axle! Yea I know who cares...but it was funny to me so I figured I would share.

You and me both, really had a hard time when everyone started using the MOA term. Before that they were just clod-style axles to me, since clodbusters were the OG axles of that design.

Got the suspension done on this thing and slapped it together for a test run in the snow. I have a couple ferret motors in it on a pitiful 6-cell nimh pack, which caused it to die early. It doesn't like the thick snow very much either. It would probably do better in 2" instead of the 4-6 we have. Anyway, here's some pics and a couple unedited videos. You can see the front motor loosen up and loose gear mesh at the end of the first video.

Wasn't too bad, and ya have to deal with what mother nature gives you. At least spinning tires in the snow is a good way to clean mud out from between tiny lugs. I might try lipo tomorrow and see how that goes. Then tear it all back down and get the asthetical tube work done.

Well, tried out 2s lipo today and I don't think that these axles are good for speed. Maybe with steel gears but I don't plan on upgrading them. I was messing around with full throttle in the gravel and stripped the rear idler gear. So I'm going to switch back the the banebots motors and run them on 3s li-ion. I may replace the gear I stripped with a metal one, but I'm not going all metal. Got the chassis stripped down and will work on the looks now.

Some more progress. I'm not really a fan of stingers but figured it might look good. Should be finished soon.

Well I think I'm done with the tubework on this. Unless something changes I'm trading this to Wolvie, so unless he wants something added to it I'm done. I added the spare tire carrier and rear "tailgate" section. I started to clean it up a little but the flax shaft on my dremel came loose so I took that as a sign to call it a day. Here's the pics.

Well if you don't want anything added I can go ahead and assemble it. I'll ship it assembled with maybe the tires removed, that way you know you have all the hardware. I think I have a 4M wingnut somewhere also, which would look better holding a spare tire on.

Well, here are probably the last pics before it gets traded off. The last few pics show a Hendrix chassis I attempted when I first got into RC, 5 or 6 years ago. I think I've improved just a little, haha.

I think those 4x4 Slash wheels/tires would look really good on there. I'm glad this will be going to someone on here. I can't wait to see it finished up.
