Jeepers Creepers now were talkin'. Nice a new build thread and it isn't an Axial this time out. Don't get me wrong I love my AX-10. But always nice to see something different come along. My LHS does not carry any Venom roducts unless special ordered only.So what does the notebook look like? Anything you going do do diferent right out the box? Can't wait to see this progress to total rock domonation.lol l8r,w.

It seems everybody has them on sale at this point! They are nearly half price of the original MSRP at a lot of places. It's a shame because this means they aren't selling which will probably lead them to be discontinued shortly. It's a shame because they seem like great crawlers. I hate when smaller companies release great products that just don't get the support they deserve.

small companies generally release products that are overpriced, either compared to the rest of their competitors or relative to the market itself. they don't get the support because people look at the truck for what it is, compared to other more complicated RCs, and it shuts down any motivation for them to get involved in that segment of the hobby.
then when you add to the fact that at best crawling will only ever be a nitch-section of the hobby, kinda like the scaler-rig guys -- and having a contest to see who can creep over a rockpile fastest while navigating a set of cones against a time-limit clock so you don't go too slow....... ranks right up there on the excitement scale with watching grass grow and curling.

Or at least that's you opinion. It's a bigger "niche" than you'd think and growing pretty fast. It was only 4-5 years ago that people were scratch building their crawlers. Maybe not as big a boom as short course, but then crawlers take more effort to produce, no rebody of an old chassis possible. This is only my opinion, but I believe the Creeper is cheap, because it isn't selling, and that it's due to it's competition, the Axial. Not due to the lack of crawling interest. Shoot, everyone and their uncle owns an axial. I actually like the Creeper a lot, the selectable lockers would make it a cool rock racer.

Perhaps you'd like to explain where all the scratch-builts have gone? To the wayside that's where. With all the RTRs out there, that are better, it's deluted the pool and has taken crawlin' from something different and interesting and turned it into more of a niche class than it was. The majority of trucks being sold are to kids and people just screwing around with them.........and mark my words, in 4 or 5 years they'll be gone entirely.

Time will tell. When typing my last post I kept stopping and asking myself if I'm biased since I do enjoy crawling. While I probably am slightly biased, going into any hobby shop definitely shows that there is a lot of interest in it. You'd be hard pressed to pick up a mag without seeing an article on something crawling related, not counting all the ads. I can't say the popularity will last, but I really think it will.

You do have a point on the scratch building. I love that part, and it is still there. Most of the aftermarket chassis companies are small businesses who design a chassis with home/shop tools. Then they usually get it sold through a larger company. Most just don't see the benefit or need to reinvent the wheel. However, most everything you see in the RTR's of today, were last years scratch built designs. Engineers at the big companies aren't designing this stuff, they might be refining them though. Losi's 1/10 crawler is a good example. Worm gear axles had been around as custom machined pieces for years and they had a pro crawler help them with suspension design.

Crawling is defenetly a growing sport. And Jamus is correct with the magazine articals. I should not knock it since I have never crawled other than the demos at the local hobby town on thier little course. It was kinda neat but not overly apealing to me neither. But most of the world dosen't like the detta either. ( I still don't understand that) But thats what makes the world go round ( my 8th grade science teacher says it's the suns gravity). Any way Pepsi has a valid point, typically when you see a big price drop in this hobby, the product for sale is discontinued. Then shortly there after the parts support dissapears, unfortunalte but true.
