Hey All; Well I have been bitten by the Scale bug and have decided to take all my leftovers and build a Scaler Crawler. As the base I am going to use all my AX-10 leftovers and some parts I bought to finish the build. And to get it running in the right direction I am using my leftover electronics from my Slasher project to waterproof it for the trail action it will see.So the next problem is going to be raising enough cash to buy the body and all the scale items I want to finish out the build. So in the coming weeks I will be going through all my RC boxes and looking for some items to sell in a Monster Garage Sale. Then I will be able to get all the items I will need to build a Propper Trail Scale Crawler.I am tired of sitting back and waiting for this to finally happen. So here are a few pics of the base I will be using. It is all plastic and I am even thinking of replacing some of the bearings with plastic bushing to keep rust and tear down maintenance to a minimum. So far I have scored some Axial SCX-10 1.9 rims complete and new and just ordered some RC4WD 1.9 tires to pop on these rims.I also got some nice rock rings from a guy on RCC that is shutting down his side job work making crawler stuff. So keep posted and I will be going along the build procces.Next step will be to decide witch chassis type to run.Scale or Crawler???? l8r,w.

Ya know, with the way the newer comp bodies are looking, the MRC looks about right on there, haha.

Good deal Wrench. Glad to see you're gonna get this project rolling. I can't wait to see what you have in store. I'm sure it is gonna be awesome no matter what it is. Good call on the Bushings. I was about to order bearings a few weeks ago until I read some posts on one of the forums that said for trail rigs don't do it. The mud and crud will stop them up quick, so I have a nice little stockpile of bushings for when any of them start to show some slop. Though they don't seem to wear out too fast at crawling speeds lol.

Hey All; Well I went and did it. I added some alloy to the scaler crawler. I got some new links in trade for the AX-10 sting and had to transfere the old ones to here. And I neede to fix the upper 3 link mount under the servo. It had some much slop it would pop out on occation. So I added a few O-rings and washers when I installed the alloy uppet Y link since I went 4 link on the AX-10 sting I transfered the link over and ditched the plastic ones. Then slipped a drilled out collet up tight to the end and tightened the set screw. Now it is golden.I swapped out the high clearence steering link to this rig too. The stock lower link were plastic and would bend when trying to crawl.I would like to go BTA(behind The Axel) high clearence someday.Might even help with the scale look. Also dropped a Revo 3.3 lid on it and though Naaaa. I am leaning towards a hardbody so testing all the Lexan lids just keeps throwing me off. :question Enjoy.l8r,w.

Hey Guys; Well After being quite Ill I have regained my witts about me. SO after selling off some stuff to fund this project I have been recieving parts in the mail as I sell off I buy some new goodies in exchange. The rig itself is made up of parts "leftover" from my AX-10 and Slash rigs with some needed to complete parts off eBay and forums. Now it is onto the good stuff. So here is a few pics of some of the goodies and I will be adding a step by step updates for the paint job as well.l8r,w.

Here is the first batch of goodies. Scored a ProLine CRG Chevy body with Roll cage and Wester Bumpers of a RCC member for a very reasonable price.$55 shipped. And I scored a Recaro cell phone seat for $6 shipped from another member. Here are a few pix.Enjoy.l8r,w.

Time for the next color. I added a layer of Indy Silver that both backed the blue and the next color coat all at the same time. Also after removing the liquid mask I applied the Parma mask and spray away. Enjoy.l8r,w.

Here is the next installment of pics. Took me a few days to get back to it with the 4th and all.Hope you all had a safe and fun holiday. We did, got invited outto a friends cook out and boat ride to see the fireworks display from the Gulf. Was a nice way to enjoy the day.OK back to work. Here we go with something a bit different for me. Ghoast Phlames. Never done it before so I left a real big section of silver down the side vacant for a parma paint mask I applied after romving the Liquid Mask. Remember to push the edges of the paint mask down again right before painting.Helps reduce blow unders alot. I went and applied 2 very light coats of Pearl White. So light it almost looked like I missed the mark.lol But when backed with the Indy Silver it sowed up in the light. Real easy effect and real nice effect. One step at a time.So here are a few finished pics.Oh I have left the cover on till I am finished with all my mods. Then I will take off the protective cover for the shine to be scratch free so it still looks fuzzy.Enjoy.l8r,w.

Thanks guys. I try. So tonight it was time to test fit and mount the bumpers past the mock up stage. :cheese Since I will be adding a winch I decided to solid mount the front bumper to the chassis and just body mount the rear bumper for now. Maybe later I will make something to solid mount the rear if need be. Also I decided to make Lexan cover to seal out the back sides of the Pro-Line Western bumpers. They have the holes and hex bracing in the plastic molds. So I decided to black them out with a cut to fit and screwed on scrap lexan cover plate and in the rear it will double as the rear bumper mount as well. Here are a few pics from the mock up fase and some mounted pics as well.Enjoy.l8r,w.

Front Western bumper in mock up with fake winch.Naaaaaa...

front bumper mounts during mock up. Hot glue works great. Since been bolted into place. I knew those old tlt chassis spacers would come in handy. :thumb

rear bumper during mock up.

rear bumper with fake winch.Naaaaaaaaaaaaa...............

Image

Rear bumper cover and mount all in one. I am just going to use servo tape under the lexan on the top 1/2 of an inch.

Rear bumper mounted up and ready to hold weight.

Image

And here are the front bumper pics after mounting and trimming. I decided to slot the body as opposed to just cutting 2 holes. This way the body can come off without removing the bumper first. And I tested out the 2 extra light to see this option. Naaaaaaaa.......

I just wanted to toss out a quick tip. After writing all my notes on the outside of the body to keep things in line you have to clear it off for trimming and sanding.I use the parma fasclean polish. I takes all the sharpy perma pen off. I let it sit for like 1 minute and it starts to run off. This way I can see all the lines for trimming.l8r,w.

Been working on more mock up work and some lighting work as well. Things are starting to get beyyer and I am slowly marking off my list of things to do and ideas i wanted to try. So far so good. But I am still having a hard time finding time and $$$ to get all the stuff I want and need to complete the build. Here are a feew more new pics as of this week. Enjoy.l8r,w.

Front bumper with the new real working 3racing winch and some Bill's Custom RC Lighting LED Fog lamps mounted in the bumper. I am adding a plug onto these wires and the winch so all you have to do is unplug the body from the chassis and the wires will be run out of the way.

And a few pics of the headlight and tailight witch I made light buckets mounted to the inside of the body and added some of Bill's Killer LED's. Once the cover comes off the body I will add the light decals over the LED's for that factory look.

Image

And to finish it off here is the rear end.I decided to paint the tail lights red from the inside intead of leaving them clear like the fronts. Nice Butt.

I really love some of the stuff pro-line is coming out with, just wish it was cheaper. If it was in the budget I'd get one of those plastic axial tube chassis with body panels, but it's overpriced in my opinion. Can't knock the looks though, and your ride looks awesome Wrench.

Yea some of there stuff is over priced. But I would pay a few buck extra to buy USA. I got a deal on the body so in the end it balanced out. I wouldn't have paid almost $100 for the bosy and roll cage w/ shipping retail online. Like $120 at the LHS. Thanks for the compliments fellas. I really appreciate it alot. l8r,w.

thats the first time I saw that video Wrench, pretty cool. I was waiting for a gator to gobble up your crawler! Keep up the work, and maybe someday I'll think I need a crawler.
