Hey All; Well I toasted my trans doing donuts on the slick slab at the shop and now I am going to rebuild it and add an all alloy case as well. When I took it apart it seems the gears got hot and melted then rounded the teeth off the gears. I noticed some black stuff in the trans gears.I think is from the black plastic case. I decided I was going to add some other hop-ups at this time and make the whole section all alloy. So I purchesed all that I needed. So here are a few pics of the whole proccess of how to rebuild the transmision on a Micro-T.So let me begin.
Here is an exploded veiw of the Micro -DT trans. Instead of buying just the gears I opted for the whole completed trans from Losi. I then took it all apart and reasembled it into the alloy trans case. Also I added an alloy motor mount with heatsink. An alloy slipper plate set as well as I topped it off with an alloy gear cover. When I dissasembled the stock trans I noticed the gears were rounded off and the brass shaft that the slipper gear is on was wollowed out where it went into the case and into a bushing in the plastic trans housing. The plastic heated up and distorted and allowed the shaft to woble around and then took out the plastic planitary gears.

Here is the brand new trans from Losi that I will diesect and remove the vital gears for transplant into my new RoboTrans.

Here is a picture of the guts and bolts inside the new donar trans. with the Exoskin of the new RoboTrans.

Here are the little culprits that could not handle the abuse it was given and failed horrorbly. The teeth have been rounded off and there is no sighn of grease or any form of lubrication. I will remedy this problem when I reconstuct the new all alloy trans case.

Here I am removing the new gears and noting order of assembly. I am also prepping the new alloy case as well. I am putting the new bushings in the case. I am adding a very small drop of CA glue to secure the bushing so it can't spin in the case.I think that was one of the problems that took out the OEM trans,.

Here is the bad shaft that cost me and my eyes so much grief. I hate you!!!

Now I have put in all the new gears, shafts and bushings into the new alloy trans case and I have greased the trans with AE Stealth Diff grease. It has to be better than nothing, like it had from Losi.

Now that my eyes are back in my head at this piont in the rebuild I can get restarted. I used a little thread lock on the screws for the new alloy case as needed so the screws will not back out.

Now that the thread lock has set up I can seal the case. I used an RTV silicone sealent to keep the diff grease from leaking out. I know some people have used a Diff Lube in say 1000 wt. To each his own. I used a tooth pick to apply the silicone to the joint going all the way around and used my fingertip to drive the silicone into the groove and to remove any exccess.

Well there it is, I have succesfullt rebuilt the transmission in my Losi MIcro-T Desert Truck. Here is the final product ready to go back into the chassis.

Seems in my haist to get this posted last night/this morning I missed a couple of pix. Here they are for you.

I have been running it for a few days now and can say it rolls smooth as glass.I hope that you don't have to go this road but if you go Bl and LiPo and are not afraid to use it it can and will mess up.But like anything else as long as you learnd from it it wasn't a complete waist of time or money. l8r,w.
